Description
MVM and Ipsilon Group collaborated strategic foresighting that enables MVM to quickly adapt to changing trends and challenges in the energy market. The goal of the project was to analyze different future scenarios, identify key market, technological, and regulatory variables, and develop strategies that ensure MVM’s long-term competitiveness.
Project Objectives
The foresight project aimed to:
Model the transformation of the energy value chain,
Understand the role of AI and digitalization in shaping consumer behavior
Create strategies for unforseeable challanges and changes
- Come up with new ideas, solutions and projects to support sustainability
The implementation of foresight methodology provides MVM a future-oriented strategic tool to navigate the rapidly evolving energy landscape. It helps identify emerging trends, adapt to regulatory changes, and develop innovative solutions for long-term success.
Strategy
During the collaboration, we followed a structured foresight methodology that enabled a comprehensive analysis of future trends and strategic directions. The key steps included:
- Market research & trend analysis: identifying emerging developments in the energy sector, technological advancements, and consumer behavior patterns.
- Signal & driver analysis: examining signals and key drivers that influence industry transformation, such as regulatory changes, AI adoption, and energy decentralization.
- Cross-analysis: evaluating the interconnections between drivers to understand their combined impact and develop a more accurate future outlook.
- Scenario development: constructing alternative future scenarios based on the identified trends and drivers, with four key focus areas: Digital Utility, Consumer Behavior Influence (DSR), Energy Efficiency, and AI – each explored through four distinct scenarios.
- Innovation roadmap: developing forward-looking strategies and actionable innovation projects to help MVM adapt to and lead in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
This structured approach ensured that strategic decisions were based on data-driven insights and adaptable to multiple potential futures.
Project Result
More than 400 pages of insights were compiled, providing a comprehensive analysis of future challenges in the energy market.
16 future scenarios were created across four key areas, with multiple alternative trajectories modeled.
30+ development proposals were formulated to help MVM and its partners adapt to emerging challenges.
Scenario analysis and variable exploration: examining possible futures, such as the effects of a decentralized energy supply model or the end of energy utility price caps in Hungary.
The foresight project’s findings serve as a long-term strategic asset for MVM, ensuring adaptability and competitive advantage in an evolving market.
